Welcome to Belle Awe

Hi my loves,

I fell in love with the word awe in 2018. I was reading The Red Goddess, a book on women, spirituality, and the shadow of sexuality, when the word awe caught my eye. This book is rich with language that challenged what I was comfortable with then. There were references to sacred sexuality, power, and the erotic. It captured my attention at a time when I was just beginning to allow myself to connect with what brought me joy and pleasure.

Awe: an emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime

Merriam-Webster.com Dictionary

There was something about the idea of experiencing, embodying, and inspiring an emotion that was sacred, but also frightening that resonated deeply with me.

I wanted to be on the receiving and giving end of awe. I sat with this revelation for years. Coming back to the word, the sensation, the desire, frequently. I knew it meant something important for me, but I wasn’t sure how.

Life did what it does. I traveled, worked through a pandemic, experienced heartbreak, the loss of a parent, and a career pivot. Yet, awe was always there – waiting for me. In watching the sunrise at the top of a mountain in Bali, my first night sleeping in a house I bought for myself, finishing the first draft of my novel, meeting my best friend’s newborn son, and facilitating spiritual circles. Awe found me in small, quiet moments. A delicious meal, a good book, a crystal, or a gift.

Awe is an intensely gratifying emotion.

Gretchen Rubin – Life in Five Senses

Belle Awe is a result of my embracing life in its many varied forms. A journey of discovering that awe can be experienced at any moment, in any form, and in the most mundane parts of life.

Awe is present in the moments we look forward to and those we fear, because what is sacred and sublime can exist in anything at any time. When we can see the sacred in ourselves and others, it makes the world more beautiful. A beauty that is more than aesthetics, but a way of life, grounded in internal and external balance. A balance that creates space for peace. Peace that is not centered around the absence of conflict, stress, or disappointments, but around the knowledge that we have the emotional integrity and fortitude to face life at every stage.

May awe find you in your highest and darkest moments, because you my love, are divine.

With love,

Kamilah Rose
